Siu Lim Tao
The purpose of learning Siu Nim Tau is as follows. It helps practitioners master basic movements and postures, including the correct stance and hand techniques.
Siu Nim Tao is the first foundational form of Wing Chun. The full set begins with the stance Yi Ji Kim Yeung Ma (Character Two Adduction Stance), and throughout the form, except for hand movements, the entire body remains still. The head should be upright (crown lifted and eyes looking straight), the body straight (back and waist aligned), and the stance stable (hips lifted, knees tucked inward). All other muscles in the body are relaxed, and breathing remains natural. This form primarily trains stability in stance, stretches the muscles and tendons of the legs (especially the quadriceps of the inner thigh), and strengthens the muscles and tendons of the arms (especially the triceps). It also focuses on increasing range of motion in the joints and refining the correct hand positioning for movements.
